How to Download Facebook Videos and Reels in HD (or SD)

Facebook's Save button doesn't save anything to your phone; it just bookmarks the video inside the app. To get an actual file, copy the video's link, paste it into the Facebook downloader, and hit download. That works for any public video or Reel, in HD or SD, with no login and nothing to install.

The steps

  1. Copy the link. Tap the three dots on the post and pick Copy link; on a Reel they're stacked next to the like and comment buttons. On desktop you can also click the video's timestamp and copy the URL straight from the address bar.
  2. Paste it into FastSaver. Open the site in any browser and drop the link in the box; there's a paste button so you don't have to long-press. The site works out that it's a Facebook link on its own, so there's nothing else to set.
  3. Pick HD or SD. HD only shows up when Facebook stored a high-definition version of that upload. Plenty of older videos exist in SD only, and no tool can invent resolution the source never had.
  4. Download. The video saves as a regular MP4 with a sensible filename, and nothing gets stamped on it.
  5. Find the file. Android and desktop put it in your Downloads folder. On iPhone, tap the download arrow in Safari, open the video in Files, then use the Share sheet's Save Video to get it into Photos.

If downloads keep vanishing on your phone, here's where every browser actually puts them.

When a video won't download

Nearly always, the video isn't public. FastSaver can only reach what Facebook shows to logged-out visitors, so friends-only posts, closed groups, live streams and deleted videos all fail. Being a member of the group yourself doesn't help, because the downloader isn't logged in as you.

Quick test: open the link in an incognito window. If the video plays, it'll download fine. If Facebook asks you to log in first, the video is private and no downloader can fetch it. Be suspicious of any site claiming otherwise, especially one that wants your Facebook password.

Quality and format notes

There's no MP3 option for Facebook. The audio-only toggle exists for TikTok and YouTube; Facebook links always come down as MP4 video. Reels behave exactly like regular videos here, same copy-the-link routine, same HD or SD choice.

As for HD versus SD: HD is worth it if you'll watch on a TV or plan to edit the clip. SD is smaller and faster to grab, and for a Reel you'll watch once on your phone it's usually plenty.

Last thing: downloads are for your own offline use, so don't repost someone else's video without asking. There's more on the legal side if you're curious where the lines sit.

Frequently asked questions

Is FastSaver free?
Yes, it is free and donation-supported. No login, no app, and no watermark gets added to the file.
Why is there no HD option for my video?
Facebook only stored an SD version of that upload. No downloader can add resolution the source never had.
Can I download just the audio as MP3?
No. The MP3 toggle exists for TikTok and YouTube, but Facebook videos always download as MP4.
Do I need a Facebook account?
No. FastSaver never asks you to log in. The only requirement is that the video itself is public.
